Welcome to The Beacon School Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
Welcome to all parents, guardians and educators of current Beacon students—you are all members of our PTA! So what does that mean—and what do we do?
Our purpose
Through community-building and fundraising, the Beacon School PTA supports the school’s classroom and College Office needs, academic programs, clubs, sports—and so much more.
Beacon’s parents and guardians are invited to have an active role in their children’s education, and The Beacon School PTA is integral to helping make Beacon such a wonderful community.
Our membership
As a parent, guardian or staff member at Beacon, you are automatically a member of the Beacon School Parent Teacher Association. Even if you don’t have an official role on the PTA (see our current Executive Board member volunteers below), everyone is welcome to get involved!
Our activities
Our PTA raises funds that go directly to supporting clubs, activities, arts, sports and academics at Beacon. We also hold monthly General PTA meetings and Executive Board (EB) meetings and also work closely with the School Leadership Team (SLT).
Additionally, parent volunteers help organize a range of activities to support families, including social gatherings and fundraisers; guest speakers, webinars and information sessions; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives; support for parents across grades, neighborhoods and by interest (including our families of Special Education students); and we work closely with the school administration to facilitate communication and collaboration.

The Beacon School PTA
OBJECTIVES
The Beacon School Parent Teacher Association is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
All parents, guardians and parental surrogates of students currently enrolled in The Beacon School are automatically members of the Association.
The objectives of the Beacon School PTA include:
- To support and enrich the educational goals of the Beacon School;
- To raise funds for materials and services that will help to insure that all Beacon students have access to (and opportunities to benefit from) a full and enriched public high school experience;
- To provide information and foster programs that will encourage and enable parents and guardians of Beacon’s students to become active, well-informed partners with the Beacon administration and faculty in the education of their children;
- To provide a forum of parents and guardians of Beacon students to voice their concerns and views with regard to the continued development and improvement of the school.
- To foster cooperation and mutual respect among parents and between parents and school administration and faculty;
- To promote the ideals of equality and justice and appreciation of cultural diversity among students, teachers, administrators and parents;
- To advocate for Beacon and its students before all agencies and officials who have authority or influence over education policy and / or resources, as well as in the New York community as a whole.

The PTA follows the rules and policies as defined in the NYC Schools Chancellor’s Regulations #A-660.
MEETINGS
The Beacon School PTA holds monthly meetings that are open to all members of the Beacon School PTA and the Beacon Community. The meetings are meant to be informative and helpful to parents. We strive to keep them relevant, quick and interesting. If there is a topic you’d like see addressed at a PTA meeting, email us at beaconpta1@gmail.com
EVENTS
We hold a variety of events for fundraising and for community-building. If you have ideas, enthusiasm and want to meet other members of the Beacon community, email us at beaconpta1@gmail.com. We welcome volunteers to help us organize grade-wide pot lucks and meet-ups, Curriculum Night, other gatherings and our annual Auction Gala. It’s also a lot of fun—come join us and support a great cause!
FUNDRAISING
The Beacon School Parent Teacher Association has an annual fundraising goal of about $200,000—all of which goes toward supporting the amazing after school clubs and sports programs that make Beacon unique.
Our Annual Fundraising Appeal launches in September for the school year ahead: please donate! Employer matching gifts? Yes! Installment plan? We can do that!
We also hold many fundraisers throughout the year. Join us by attending a PTA event, buying Beacon-branded merchandise to show school spirit — or by donating to and participating in our annual auction.
Proceeds from these and many other events go toward supporting our principal Brady Smith and team — and help fund the fantastic opportunities our school offers each and every student—and our phenomenal teachers too.
