PupilPath is going away!
After the DOE stops using PupilPath (aka Skedula) on June 30th, 2022 due to security issues, Beacon and other New York City public schools will start using the DOE’s New York City Schools Account (NYCSA) as the primary platform for communication with families—and as the online gradebook starting this fall.
What you need to do to get ready: It’s essential that all Beacon parents and guardians make sure they have a NYCSA account set up, with a profile for each student in their family. Each parent must have their own NYCSA account (if they so choose).
• If you do not have NYCSA set up for your child, please register as soon as possible so you don’t miss any communications from the school. More information on how to do so can be found here and here.
• If you do have a NYCSA profile, please check that your email and contact information is up to date.
Stay tuned for more information from Beacon’s administration about this rollout, which is expected in October. In the meantime, you can continue to subscribe to Beacon school emails (click HERE) for any updates.
And don’t forget to subscribe to Beacon PTA emails (click HERE), which will continue with a weekly newsletter and other communications in September.
Background: DOE Chancellor David Banks announced in May that a new grades, attendance and messaging system will be rolled out in August 2022 in time for the new school year, and that families need to have their NYCSA account active and up to date in order to be ready for it.
NYCSA is not the same as the DOE’s MySchools account:
• MySchools (MySchools.nyc) is for families applying to 3-K, pre-K, kindergarten, middle school, or high school; you’ll use your MySchools account to explore schools or early childhood programs, build an application, apply, get offers, and check waitlists––all in one place.
• NYCSA or the NYC Schools Account Parent Portal (SchoolsAccount.nyc) is for families of current DOE public school students in any grade level. Parents and guardians use this account to track your child’s education, see grades, get updates from your child’s school and get emergency alerts from the DOE.
How to Reset Your Child’s Password in NYCSA
You can reset your student’s DOE email password easily by following these instructions:
• Click on Settings
• Click on Student Password
• Select the child whose password you want to update
• Enter a new password. Your password must:
• Contain between 8–32 characters
• Contain at least one number (0–9)
• Contain at least one lowercase letter (a–z)
• Contain at least one uppercase letter (A–Z)
• Retype the new password
• Click on Save
That’s it! Your password has been reset.
