Details: Our children face many challenges through the developmental process. As they gain more independence, they begin to individuate from the family unit in a healthy way. Their primary source of influence becomes the behavior of their peer group. In a comprehensive report from the NYCDOHMH, 12.8% of NYC youth ages 12 and older report use of marijuana and other substances. As parents, it is important to be aware of what substances your child may be exposed to and how to communicate with your child to empower them to make healthy choices. In this presentation, we will learn what substances teens may be exposed to, how our children develop psychosocially, the impact these changes have on their behavior, and how best to communicate with your child about drugs and alcohol through the developmental process.
